The world will probably end in about 4 or 5 billion years time. This will happen as the sun will eventually run out of hydrogen fuel and then begin to expand and grow as it devours other elements. Eventually, it will consume the Earth too. Our genus, Homo, has only been around for just over 2 million years and our species, Homo sapiens, for far less than that. maybe 200,000 years. Most species last for only a geologically short period of time – a few million years at most, though some last a lot longer, but you’re still talking hundreds of millions of years – there has only been complex life for around 600 million years and life on land for around 450 million years. So when you think about all this, I think that it’s really, really unlikely that humans will be around when the world ends. Even if some descendant species is around, it would probably be really nothing like humans as we exist now.

I don’t think so 😉 we are talking about billions and billions of years and humans have just been around for a couple millions of years! At the most a different version of humans would be around as we would have definitely evolved to the new conditions in such a long time 😉 me and you for sure will not be around! (maybe if cryopreservation gets established, who knows!)

If the world (as in Planet Earth) ends when the Sun dies, I doubt the species Homo sapiens will still be there. It might have evolved into something else. Or that species might have driven itself to extinction through the mismanagement of the resources it needs to survive. The world can end in many different ways, but the most likely we know about is the Sun dieing. Asteroid collisions are possible, but more uncertain.

Eeeek! The idea of the world ending seems quite scary – don’t you think?

But the world is a pretty tough planet, and will probably do just fine until the sun dies.. and as Karen says – that’s aaaaages away!
So in the meantime will we still be around? I actually agree with these guys when I say I don’t think our species will live that long. Will we evolve? Or just die out? I wonder what will replace us?
Hmm.. this question has got me thinking! If only we could look into the future to find out 😉
