      Hi tporter10,
The very first fossil I found was the “arm” of a crinoid – I found it in a quarry. This is a little sea creature, that when fossilised looks a little like a tube with one wide end and one narrow end. Crinoids are from the same big group as starfish, so they have “arms” that come in sets of 5, though most crinoids have lots more than 5. The one that I found was about 350 million years old. There are still lots of crinoids around today. They are sometimes called sea lillies, though they are animals not plants. They are found in many seas and oceans around the world today and have been found in rocks as old as 450 million years! So they have been around for a long time.
