Oooh I think that’s actually quite a tricky question…
As far as I know there was a recent mammal discovery: the Olinguito. It’s discovery was confirmed in August this year… so that’s a pretty recent and special find!
(They are also very cute – you should look at a picture of it).
But there might have been other animals discovered since then, but I haven’t heard about it. It would be great to hear if the others know of anything else?
New species are being discovered regularly, so I went to one journal dedicated to animal descriptions, Zootaxa, to see what has been the most recent entry.
It is a new species of Whip Scorpion, from Brazil. The description was announced yesterday. And that is the latest so far.
Thomas and I are synchronized! New beetles and frogs from the 21st of November: Temnaspis puae and Leptolalax botsfordi (these are the scientific names in latin – the first is the genus and the second the species)! You can google the first name of each to see what they will look like 🙂 since they are new there should not be many pictures available, though the genus should be easy to find!
